A new project for 2025

Training of Facilitators in Discernment in Common

An Ignatian Contribution for a Synodal Church

Promoting Synodal Transformation

The synodal process has led to extensive demand for expert facilitators in Discernment in Common who can help Jesuits, other religious and the Church in general.

To meet this demand, the Society of Jesus is launching a new project to train facilitators of discernment in common. The programme is open to Jesuits and other religious nominated by their superiors as well as to qualified lay people.

Fr General sees this as a key Ignatian contribution to the synodal vision of Pope Francis.

Send people for training!

Phase Two – Sharing

In this phase the expert teams who gathered in Spain will make themselves available to train facilitators of discernment in common at local and regional level.

These facilitators in turn will be available to the local Church.

Next steps - how you can get involved

Jesuit and Ignatian major superiors can send names of people who can be good facilitators - or who are already facilitators but need more training - to [email protected].

They should be people who can do the initial training – a 10 day commitment. They should also be people who can be available to work as facilitators of discernment processes at local level. We can consider also younger people in a later stage of their formation or newly ordained or vowed and who have potential to develop in this area.

Support a Regional Hub!

Phase 3 - Strengthening

We hope that Resource Centres/Hubs in Discernment in Common will develop organically in the various conferences; they can also be Resource Centres for Discerning Leadership.

How to take part

It's not too early to start thinking and discerning about a suitable place that can be a Hub or a Resource Centre in your part of the world. Major superiors are encouraged to talk together about the possibilities. Together we can make the dream of Pope Francis a reality.
